We had some great nominations this year for the Imagine Group Great Giveaway to non-profits. 189 people took the time to nominate 71 different non-profits to win signs or banners, photography or a vehicle wrap. Before I announce the winners later this week, I wanted to take the opportunity to share with you some of the things I learned from the nominations:

  • A Northwest Youth Corps nominator noted that Oregon has the 3rd highest youth unemployment in the nation.
  • Next Step is opening it's first Digital Literacy Training Center at Broadway and Oak as part of the ePower Our Community (ePOC) program, offering computer training and refurbished computers to 150 marginalized families.
  • Skaters for Eugene Skateparks is half way through an ambitious fundraising campaign to build a world class skatepark under the Washington Jefferson bridge and attract high level national skateboarding competitions. Skateboarding is a sport, not just a fun way to get from here to there!
  • The Assistance League of Eugene raises money through their Gently Used Thrift Shop on Willamette to provide free dental care to low income children.
  • The Rainy Day Blues Society runs a monthly blues jam for kids, including free loaner instruments, providing "a place where kids can play the 12-bar blues without a bar".
  • Volunteers in Medicine provides free primary medical care and mental health services to low income uninsured Lane County adults using donated time from health care professionals and the financial donations. They have over 450 volunteers and in the middle of an annual campaign to raise $1.6 million!
  • The Eugene Ballet has a traveling ballet troupe and their performances reach 75,000 people in the region, often in places where their visit is the only ballet performance in the locality.
  • Looking Glass reaches over 7500 kids annually and just opened a new facility on River Road.
  • MECCA prevented over 16,000 pounds of waste from entering the landfill by fostering creativity with the use of discarded materials. Over 5000 people take advantage of their Open Studio, gallery, community workshops and Recycled Art in the Schools each year.
  • Oregon Track Club has over 50 years of history in this community and is now targeting recreational runners and walkers with new benefits and monthly runs/walks.
  • Several people who nominated the American Diabetes Association noted that more people die each year from diabetes complications than breast cancer and AIDS combined!
  • The School Garden Project supports school gardening curriculums in 15 school gardens in 4 area school districts. Isn't it great that there are that many school gardens?!
  • He Kula Na Mea Hawaii (A School of Things Hawaiian) teaches language, history, dance and other aspects of Hawaiian culture locally to all who wish to learn.
  • Wilderness Volunteers (Flagstaff, AZ) organizes thousands of volunteers in national parks around the country with the use of only two paid staffers.

I am so grateful to live in a community where so many people care enough to work on behalf of the needs of others, to join together with their time and their resources to make the world a better place. It is an honor to be able to do what we do best (help our clients get their message out with exquisite photography, gorgeous graphics and fantastic vehicle wraps) to help organizations advance their mission.

Later this week, I will be ready to post the list of the 13 organizations chosen as winners in this year's Giveaway. Those who won last year are not eligible to win again until next year. But even taking those out of the pile, there were still many more worthy organizations than winning spots, so we tried to choose winners based on where we thought our gift could be most fully utilized and therefore have the most impact. Hopefully, even organizations who were not chosen will have benefit indirectly from the awareness generated by being nominated.

Thank you to everyone who participated. Your nominations matter.

Blessings to you all in this holiday season.

And thank you for mentioning MECCA! We are greatly enjoying the banner you donated to us earlier in the year, and making extremely good use of it during all our events! Thanks!!

Tue, Dec 14 2010 9:02 pm: Aren't we lucky to live in a place where organizations like this are a part of our community! At times when I wonder whether our city is on the right or wrong track, I think of the non-profits and know we are on the RIGHT track.

Thank you to everyone who has already made a nomination of a non-profit group that would benefit from a banner or a vehicle wrap or a half day of professional photography.
As of this writing, there are 61 nominations on the Imagine Group Facebook page and 43 nominations here on our Blog! Eugene/Springfield really cares about its non-profits!

I hope you'll take a few minutes to
read what other people have to say about their favorite groups. I have learned a lot already about the cool projects that familiar non-profits are undertaking, and also about non-profits that I have not been familiar with yet. It's so heartening and really makes me happy. There are some below this blog post, and if you scroll further down there are a whole lot more nominations below the blog post in which the Giveaway was announced. Read some. It will make you happy too, I bet. :)

Tue, Nov 30 2010 9:11 am: I would like to nominate Committed Partners for Youth/Big Brother Big Sister of Lane County

CPY/BBBS makes a tremendous difference in the lives of kids in our community by matching them with mentors who spend time with them - inspiring, motivating and helping them build healthy relationships. CPY is seen as a leader in the state for successful mentoring programs.

There is a tremendous need for male mentors and having material specifically targeted to men would be hugely beneficial. Signage, mailing materials (postcards) and photography could make the difference in the lives of dozens of boys and young men who need a "big brother."

Fri, Nov 26 2010 2:28 pm: I would like to nominate Foster And Adoptive Parents Association of Lane County for this donation. FAAPA is the only nonprofit like it in Lane County. FAAPA provides monthly trainings and support meetings for foster and adoptive parents, emergency funds for extreme abuse cases, events such as the Annual Christmas Party for over 800 families in the county, and so much more. Lane County is experiencing a shortage of foster and adoptive homes during a difficult economic time, which makes it imperative that FAAPA is able to continue to support the families that are overfilled with our neediest children. With this donation, FAAPA could reach more families and their children through more events and funds to help in emergencies.

Sharon Castle
Wed, Nov 24 2010 1:03 pm: This may seem like an odd nomination, but all nonprofits need help producing promotional materials, right?

I am nominating MECCA (Materials Exchange Center for Community Arts)to receive your donated services.

In the last year, MECCA prevented over 16,000 pounds of waste from entering the landfill. That’s the equivalent of 2 African elephants, 8 Volkswagon Beetles, or 5,333 Thanksgiving Tofurkeys!

Any way you do the math, that’s a big impact. Yet MECCA’s true value is measured by the creativity fostered in the community we serve.

MECCA was founded in 1999 by two educators who saw a powerful opportunity to combine community arts and environmental action through a nonprofit dedicated to creative reuse. Today, MECCA serves over 5,000 people each year through:

* A Reuse Store stocked with an assortment of crafty discards and salvaged arts supplies for pennies on the dollar;
* An Open Studio providing the public with space, tools, and inspiration for individual and collaborative projects;
* The MECCA Gallery showcasing some of the region’s most talented artists working with repurposed and recycled materials;
* Community Workshops for children and adults in topics such as mosaics, printmaking, book-binding, and assemblage;
* RecycleArt! In the Schools program providing artist residencies and teacher training in creative reuse;
* And much, much more!

I strongly support the mission and work, and creative experiences that this dedicated, hardworking group of mostly volunteers brings to our community. I recommend you partner with this organization and help them take it to the next level (with you attached to their apron strings). Sounds like a win-win to me.

The Portland Independent Living Project is one of the organizations nominated by our clients in the Great Giveaway Game and chosen as a winner to receive a free banner. Recently they sent us this photo of their Case Managers holding the banner.  It's easy to see how the bright, hip look of their message can make both staff and clients feel proud of their organization.
They used the photo in their newsletter and posed the question 'Who's missing from the Case Manager group?' as a way to interest their client-readers and build the connection between clients and staff. The first person to call in with the name of the person missing from the photo won a movie pass from the organization.  Nice job PDX ILP of leveraging the graphics to advance your mission of supporting teens who are aging out of foster care!

This is our second year of running the Great Giveaway to Non-profits where we take nominations from our clients and friends of which non-profits could benefit from donations of signage, banners, photography or a vehicle wrap. It is really a fun way to give away our services - in a big group, and with the energy and input of others! The entire Imagine Group staff feels very proud to be a part of this giving and excited to help make the chosen non-profits look fabulous and get their message out even more effectively. It takes a village.. right?

This year's 13 winners were announced yesterday in our Cool Projects eNewsletter and on our Facebook page. It's a great group.
There were many more great groups too among the nominees and I hope those who weren't chosen will get nominated again in the future and continue to have people giving voice to their mission and their needs. Part of what I love about the whole Giveaway is learning what groups do and helping to publicize that to others, whether they win or not, through the social media venues in which we accept nominations and communicate about the process. Spreading the word for all as well as providing in-kind donations to increase visibility of the winners is what this is all about.

So thank you all for your interest and participation. That's what makes communities great. Happy holidays to you all from the whole staff at Imagine Group.

P.S. We will be closed between Christmas and New Year's, as is our tradition, so our staff can relax with their families. We look forward to many exciting projects for non-profits and businesses in the New Year!

What a wonderful outpouring of support for a wide array of non-profits both local and at a distance. It's so cool that our community has so many great groups and ardent supporters. A whopping 49 organizations were nominated by 113 people (61 on Facebook, 46 as comments on our blog at our website and 3 on Twitter).

Here are some things I learned about local groups:
* Requests for scholarship help has doubled at Kidsports.
* More than 87,000 parents and children have been in Birth to Three groups
* The Science Factory (which gets 30,000 visitors/year) is converting their planetarium into a full dome theater
* MECCA just moved to a new location next to the train station
* Oregon Bach Festival brings classical music into K-5 classrooms for 5 minutes at the beginning of the school day
* The Boy Scouts' signature annual event is the Pinewood Derby where the boys design, make wooden cars and then race them.
* Oregon has the 2nd highest incidence of breast cancer in the nation..

The $25 gift card winners are:

Deana Lancaster for her poetic nomination of the Basenji Rescue and Transport organization,
Roger Scott who pointed out that Greenhill Humane Society puts the purr in purrfect!
And Amy Adams who submitted this poem about the Oregon Bach Festival:

OBF fans have great hearts:
Dedication is way off the charts
Every dime that you save
Could be one that you gave
To further the cause of the Arts!

Way to go Amy!

And now what you've all been waiting for the 2009 winning organizations:

Imagine Fleet Graphics will design, create and install a truck wrap for BRING Recycling! When they come pick up your stuff or send out their deconstruction crew, they'll be increasing their visibility by thousands of viewings a day, adding to the people who know about and support BRING.

Imagine Photographics will give a half day of photography to Ophelia's Place. Ophelia's Place is a young local non-profit that formed in 2005 as an offshoot of Womenspace. Their mission is to provide proactive programming and support services to girls, to equip them to be strong resilient, successful adults. Powerful photographic imagery will synergistically enhance the pro bono communications and website work that Verb Marketing + PR is helping Ophelia's Place with in 2010.

Imagine Graphics will support 10 non-profits with a free banner or the equivalent in exhibit graphics or other signage.
1. Eugene Relief Nursery - a favorite among nominators, making a difference in the lives of countless children locally and nationally through replications of their program
2. Save the Pets - finding homes for animals from local shelters and rescue groups
3. Kidsports who one nominator described as dedicated to physical literacy and helping all kids play
4. Just in Time Recovery Center for Meth Addiction who is on the move to acquire a rural property outside of Veneta where they can create a 1 year residential treatment for adult male meth addicts.
5. MECCA, the beloved local materials re-use arts organization with the brand new location
6. The Inn Independent Living Program - to raise awareness and donations to further their work with youth in the Portland area who are aging out of state foster care, providing them with independent living skills, housing, education and employment.
7. Greenhill Humane Society to help more animals find homes by creating better visibility at their off-site animal adoption events
8. Susan G Komen Race for the Cure - a fantastic fundraiser for breast cancer research, coming to Eugene for the first time in Oct 2010
9. Science Factory to get the word out about their expanding educational programming
10. Oregon Supported Living Program which is ready to be more visible in providing services to adults with developmental disabilities who want to lead ordinary meaningful lives despite their extraordinary circumstances

Runners up included several organizations who we recently awarded similar giveaways to as part of our celebration of the launch of Imagine Photographics:
Next Step Recycling - our busy neighbor working on many fronts to divert electronics from the waste stream, who recently got an AFrame sign to draw people to the Re-Use Store
and ShelterCare who were recently awarded a half day of photography from Imagine Photographics to illustrate the three populations they serve.

Thank you to EVERYONE who takes the time to be involved in the community and who participated in this Giveaway!
Have a wonderful holiday season from the whole crew at Imagine Group:

Thu, Dec 10 2009 11:22 pm: Imagine Group, thanks so much for your generosity! I'm glad that two organizations I've volunteered with, BRING and MECCA, are both receiving donations. Thanks so much, I know what a difference your gift will make to all of these local non-profits!

Imagine Group's 3 divisions are ready to give away over $8000 in goods and services to non-profit organizations!  Check out what we're giving away:

But with so many worthy organizations out there, we need you to help us choose who to donate to.

It only takes a minute to nominate your favorite non-profit. It can be a local, regional or national organization. Who do you like to support?
  • schools
  • social service agencies
  • arts organizations
  • environmental groups
  • religious groups
  • science and research
They're all eligible to be chosen.

And if you're one of the lucky three participants, you could win a $25 gift certificate to the coffee shop of your choice!

To nominate, just tell us the name of the organization you are nominating, why you like them (very briefly) and which of our services you think they could use.  There are three ways to nominate your favorite non-profit:
  1. The easiest is to post your nomination as a comment to this blog, since you're already here.
  2. We think the most fun way will be to write your nomination on our Facebook fan page, 'cause then you get to see all the banter and conversation about the nominations that is the hallmark of social media.
  3. Or if you are a Twitter user, and you like the challenge of using only 140 characters, you're welcome to nominate a non-profit in a tweet. (But remember to mention @ImagineGraphics in it so we can find your tweet!)
We want to make this nomination thing as fun and interactive as you're willing to make it.  So we're giving away a $25 gift card to the three people who write the most creative nominations.  Poetry, silliness, limmerick...It's all fair game!   We're excited to see which organizations get nominated.  And we're excited to see how you tell us who to pick.  So have fun with it.  :)

Nominations will be accepted through December 6th.

Mon, Nov 01 2010 8:34 pm: Bridgeway House could make great use of your awesome banners! We are a non-profit working with families affected by autism. Our clients often function much better with visual cues, so a nice big Bridgeway House banner would be great for our out-of-office activities!
Michelle Pellitier
Tue, Oct 26 2010 10:22 am: I nominate Bridgeway House a small nonprofit supporting families of children with autism through social groups, intensive early therapys and now a small school. This group helps Lane county families of all income levels. bridgewayhouse.org
Monica Shovlin
Fri, Dec 04 2009 11:25 am: I nominate The Shedd Institute for the Arts, particularly their music school, for the half-day of photography. I know Steve can capture the energy of the school, which attracts students of ALL ages and skill levels to learn to make music on a wide variety of instruments. The Shedd fills the void in music education in our public schools and does it really well! I'm proud to serve on The Shedd's board and really appreciate what they bring to and for our community!! Thanks for your consideration.
Tenille
Wed, Dec 02 2009 11:06 am: It would be wonderful if the photography could be used by Oregon Supported Living Program. They help developmentally disabled adults in Lane County live their lives in the most normal, full way possible. Photos of clients would be a great way to show what they do and how many people they help.
Kelly Darnell
Mon, Nov 30 2009 2:43 pm: So many great causes in this community! Greenhill Humane Society would benefit tremendously from this offer. So many pets have been abandoned during this economic downturn. Greenhill has been there for these animals and is working hard to find them loving homes. Thank you for considering Greenhill.
Barbara Bergreen
Mon, Nov 30 2009 11:38 am: RELIEF NURSERY! Helping the families in our community, a program that is now an international success....
Linet
Sun, Nov 29 2009 3:24 pm: I would nominate ShelterCare for the banners from Image Graphics. ShelterCare is a fabulous organization that works with many people with many types of difficulties. The common theme is ShelterCare provides housing to those who need it. They work with homeless families, individuals with brain injuries, and individuals with severe psychiatric disabilities. They also partner with other agencies in making sure the public and the local and state governments are aware of the health care, housing, transportation, and other social service needs...this is where I think the banners and signage come in. Thanks to Image for being willing to support community organizations.
Marni
Sun, Nov 29 2009 11:50 am: I support The Inn ILP. This Independent Living Program serves 200 youth who are aging out of state foster care and are in need of independent living skills, housing, education, and employment. This type of service reduces the rates of homelessness, criminal activity and early pregnancy for emacipated foster youth. This service is not well known and the program would benefit from the banners or trade show graphics. The program could use these items to raise awareness of the program which in turn would raise the charitable donations that it relies on to support the youth. Thank you!!
Peg Rees
Sat, Nov 28 2009 12:28 pm: I would also like to nominate KidSports.

Their new director is an innovative, thoughtful, and caring woman who understands that the quality of a person's life is rooted in the quality of experiences they have as children. Sports is only one way to be exposed to many important dynamics (sharing, discipline, timeliness, respect for others, hearty play, healthy competition, teamwork, learning how to win and lose, etc, etc, etc...) but sometimes it is the only place our children get exposed to this range of human experience.

I'd love to know how many kids KidSports has helped put on the right path through participation in their programs.
Bill
Thu, Nov 26 2009 9:29 pm: KIDSPORTS supports the community by providing athletic opportunities for thousands of kids. About one quarter of the kids can't afford to play without the scholarships that KIDSPORTS provides. Please consider supporting KIDSPORTS. Thank you.
Hayley Ryan
Thu, Nov 26 2009 9:51 am: I would like to nominate ShelterCares Garden Place Program because I believe in the work that is being done to support folks working through Mental Illness.
patsy moser
Thu, Nov 26 2009 7:46 am: I would like to nominate The Relief Nursery. They have made a difference in the lives of countless children and families in the Eugene/Springfield area.
Stephen Nessly
Wed, Nov 25 2009 3:12 pm: What a great service to the community. It's great to hear about some of the non-profits that I never knew of. I would like to nominate the Relief Nursery to help them increase awareness and support.
Mary
Wed, Nov 25 2009 10:26 am: i would like to suggest Wilani Council Camp Fire. They reach a lot of children of all ethnic backgrounds and a wide range of ages.
Erika Leaf - VP of Imagine Group
Wed, Nov 25 2009 10:09 am: Thank you ALL for your nominations. It is wonderful to hear the enthusiasm and commitment to these groups that help make our community a better place. My only regret is that I can't respond personally on the blog to each of you about the group you suggested, as I have been able to with those who posted their nomination on our Facebook page. But do know that your participation is appreciated very much.
Mike Sturgeon
Tue, Nov 24 2009 8:36 pm: I wish to nominate Kipsports (Emerald Kidsports or http://www.kidsports.org/index.phtml) for this award. In my brief relationship with them, they have consistently gone above and beyond the call of duty to help kids--any kids--that need assistance.

In my case specifically:

I am the North Oregon Babe Ruth State Commissioner and I had the pleasure to be introduced to this fine organization approximately two months ago. I had heard that Kidsports had a bunch of older baseball equipment that they wished to donate to needy baseball or softball leagues within any sports organization. I applied for gear for 6-8 leagues and Jennifer Bradley PROMPTLY and without complaint worked with my organization and me and assembled approximately 36 complete team bags sets of gear (comprised of helmets, bats and catchers' gear).

I was very much impressed and gratified to have met such a sterling youth dedicated organization and personnel. It is patently obvious where their heart selflessness lies--the youth in the area. And while I was thankful for the individual attention shown Babe Ruth by Kidsports and Jennifer Bradley, I was not fooled into thinking that the attention shown to us was an isolated instance. I cannot speak more highly of the impression that I have for this wonderful youth-dedicated organization.

Kidsports is truly deserving of your award. Their unheralded dedication and devotion to youth sports is unrivalled in this area.

Best regards,

Mike Sturgeon, State Commissioner
North Oregon Babe Ruth

Tue, Nov 24 2009 8:00 pm: I nominate the following groups, for the following reasons:
1) Cub Scouts (OTCBSA.org) A picture is worth a thousand words, and having professional photos of the signature event of Cub Scouting -- the pinewood derby -- would be a great recruiting vehicle for the only youth organization I know that has celebrated over 100 years of turning millions of young boys into honest, respectful, and contributing members of society.
Jody Miller
Tue, Nov 24 2009 5:30 pm: I nominate Kidsports. Thousands of kids are served. The schools are unable to provide physical education.
Dagmar
Tue, Nov 24 2009 4:47 pm: Jonathan Dale Miller Foundation
http://jonathansfoundation.org/

A banner.

Also known as "Jonathan's Helpers" the Jonathan Dale Miller Foundation works in Jonathan's memory (who passed away at age 10 from a terminal illness) to “feeding the hungry people and giving toys (and clothes) to kids at Christmas that wouldn’t usually get toys” as he fervently wished.

His grandparents Sharon and George Handgis work ceaselessly to fundraise; put together boxes of non-perishable food, clothes and toys and distribute these during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season to some 1200 families on the Big Island of Hawaii.

http://www.westhawaiitoday.com/articles/2008/12/22/local/local01.txt
http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2003/May/20/il/il04a.html

Jonathan’s grandparents also dedicated an acre of land at Keauhou Bay to Jonathan’s Park for use by terminally and chronically ill children and their families. They work with Make a Wish Foundation and Sharon also volunteers with Hospice of Kona.

Hawaii is an expensive place to live and many people work 2-3 jobs just to get by. With the economy and tourism down, the need for food and clothing donations is greater than ever. The Handgis’ are truly an amazing couple who make a difference in their community and touch everyone they meet.

We met them this year experienced their love and support while a family member was in Hospice care. Thank you so much for everything Auntie Sharon and Uncle George. We love you! Jeff and Dagmar
Kim Ward
Tue, Nov 24 2009 4:19 pm: I nominate "One Fine Day", a fundraiser for Volunteers In Medicine Clinic in Eugene. The clinic serves adults that are employed, uninsured and don't qualify for government assistance. Keep our working residents healthy!!!!!

Tue, Nov 24 2009 2:27 pm: Looking Glass is a local organization that is extremely dedicated, not only to the community and its youth, but also to their amazing employees! There are several Looking Glass programs throughout the community providing services at so many different levels. Looking Glass works collaboratively with other helping organizations to try an address certain segments of the population who might be falling though the cracks. Our community is very lucky to have an agency like this!!!!

Tue, Nov 24 2009 8:51 am: I nominate Oregon Supported Living Program. We serve adults with Developmental Disabilities in the community and often go unnoticed for all the services we provide for adults who want to live meaningful lives. We make opportunity happen for people to live ordinary lives despite extraordinary circumstances.

Mon, Nov 23 2009 2:27 pm: My vote goes to Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, coming to Eugene in 2010! A great organization working to find a cure for breast cancer. Did you know Oregon has the 2nd highest incidence rate in the U.S.?
Dana
Mon, Nov 23 2009 2:19 pm: I vote for making the donation to the Komen Race for the Cure that is coming to Eugene for the first time in October 2010. Great cause and would be great visibility for Imagine. Guess who is donating the marketing/pr services for the event? :} I'm sure The Race could use photography but signage is what comes to mind. They are going to need lots of it. Thanks!

Mon, Nov 23 2009 12:28 pm: Just In Time Recovery Center for Meth Addiction
http://www.justintimerecoverycenter.com/programs/

Vehicle graphics would have the most impact in getting the word out.

Founder Teresa Rhoads wants to start a long-term residential treatment center with a holistic approach, and create a model of self-sustaining programs that can be implemented by other recovery centers.

Teresa decided to do something about the problem that is (her quote) "destroying so many lives, families and communities". When you meet her, she just radiates positive energy and you know that she will make it happen.

I think a self-sustaining, holistic and long-term treatment approach just makes so much sense.

Mon, Nov 23 2009 12:24 pm: Greenhill Humane Society would love to be the recipient of your generous donation! It would help us continue to spread the word in our community about animal adoption and all our programs and allow us to continue using the majority of our funding to go directly to the animals.

Mon, Nov 23 2009 12:19 pm: Hannah’s House provides a safe place and help to women with life-controlling problems and addictions. Hannah’s House is unique in that women with children are allowed to enter the program with their children. Many times women must leave their children with family, friends or Foster Care. At Hannah’s House children do not need to be separated from their mothers and the mom’s live with the motivation to change their lives. Parenting and workplace skills are a part of the discipleship program so that women who graduate can be a productive part of society and be successful in raising their children.

Mon, Nov 23 2009 12:13 pm: KindTree has done amazing work with the autism community. They could use banners for their art shows & activities, especially their summer camp. Professional photography for their website redesign would also be great.

Mon, Nov 23 2009 12:02 pm: Cascade Health Solutions provides nonprofit health care for our community. Last year they provided service for 54,000 people whether or not they could provide payment. CHS is in the process of creating a local Primary Care Clinic for uninsured people in our area.

Mon, Nov 23 2009 11:51 am: I would like to see Looking Glass receive the benefits of your goods and services. Their outreach to local youth is sometimes unknown due to the variety of services they offer. They are truly making a difference with local youth and thus are building a better community for our future.

Mon, Nov 23 2009 11:26 am: What a wonderful opportunity for you to be able to help orphans in war-ridden Demorcratic Republic of the Congo. I therefore nominate The City of Refuge International, Inc. www.cityofrefugeinternational.org. we are a grass-roots non-profit taking 93 orphans off the streets and helping them monthly.

Mon, Nov 23 2009 11:14 am: I would love to see Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Oregon receive the $8,000 in professional photography. We will be embarking on a capital campaign and could use the photos to convey the reasons it makes sense for us to build a facility where our health center and administrative functions can be co-located so we can put money into our education and clinic programs instead of paying rent! Thanks for being such a pay-it-forward kind of company!
Kerry
Mon, Nov 23 2009 11:06 am: The Science Factory has done a good job engaging children in science, technology, and humanity. They could really use improved exhibit signs and your wonderful banner stands.
Lorraine Kerwood
Mon, Nov 23 2009 11:01 am: Wow! Fabulous opportunity. I so appreciate the community support this will provide. I would love to see NextStep Recycling receive these services. We have SO much info to get out into the community in the coming months.
I know it will be a great boost to what ever nonprofit receives it-your work is top notch!
Thanks for supporting nonprofits that make a difference in our community.

Mon, Nov 23 2009 10:52 am: I feel you should donate the $8000 in good/services to Save The Pets. They are a local non-profit organization that helps to find permanent homes for both rescued and sheltered dogs and cats, as well as teaching the public to be responsible pet owners by spaying and neutering their pet. They operate solely with volunteer help and their funds come from fund raisers, private donations and grants.

Mon, Nov 23 2009 10:50 am: The Eugene Active 20-30 Club could use all of these services in our upcoming membership drive. Our members age out of our club at 40 years old and we are aggressively trying to replace those members with young, eager volunteers who will help us raise money and perform hands-on projects for our local children's charities.

Mon, Nov 23 2009 10:49 am: Great idea; great public service. Thanks for doing this. I will give it serious thought.
Cathy Hamilton
Mon, Nov 23 2009 10:47 am: Ophelia's Place! A fairly young local non-profit that's still building its brand (and website) and needs good photography to do it. The group provides proactive programming and support programs for girls, with the mission (in my words) of equipping them to be strong, resilient, successful adults.
Noah
Mon, Nov 23 2009 10:37 am: You should donate the $8000 in goods/services to ShelterCare! They do alot of great things in our community and could use they money to raise awareness and support.

Wow! It was only 24 hours ago that we asked for nominations for which non-profits our three divisions should give photography, banners or a vehicle wrap to. And already more than 70 people have taken the time to go to either our Blog or our Facebook Fan page and nominate a group they care about!

I have been incredibly moved to read the nominations. To remember that there are legions of individuals and organizations freely giving of themselves to make one corner of the world a kinder, better, cleaner, stronger, safer, more beautiful place. To learn about groups I had never known about before. And to read the heartfelt descriptions and endorsements from people in the community who are connected in one way or another with Imagine Group. It really gives me such a hopeful, warm-hearted feeling about the world. Go team! 

Over 40 groups have been suggested. Some are the bigger, more visible non-profits that most people in the community know about, like BRING, NextStep Recycling, Greenhill and the Relief Nursery. Some are small and less visible, but still doing important and good work, like Ophelia’s Place, Oregon Supported Living, Donate Life NW and Just in Time Recovery Center for Meth Addiction. And some that have been suggested are unfamiliar to most because out of the area, such as City of Refuge International and Basenji Rescue and Transport. We humans are so resourceful and determined, aren’t we?!

I’d like to make a few clarifications about the process. One is that our intention is to choose 12 organizations who each will be offered one of the donation items we are giving away. Either one of the ten banners being given OR a half day of photography OR a partial vehicle wrap. It won’t all go to a single organization.

The second clarification I’d like to make is that we are not actually asking for ‘votes’. So while it’s great to hear multiple people supporting the same organization, what is even better is to have nominators tell us WHY they support that group and WHICH DONATION THE GROUP COULD USE. For instance, so far no one has told us about a group that has the opportunity to increase their visibility by having a vehicle wrapped. So if you think of one who could use that, by all means let us know. It’s fine to nominate as many groups as you want.

And for those of you marketers out there interested in the “how”s of engaging with our community, you might be interested to know that of the 70+ nominations we’ve received thus far, approximately half have come as comments on our blog and half as comments on the wall of our Facebook fan page (and only one on Twitter so far). However, I predict the blog comments will level off and the Facebook interactions will continue to increase due to being able to easily have conversation back and forth with people who nominate on Facebook and also the built in cross-pollination and interconnection of a social networking platform. On Facebook if Mr. X nominates on our fan page, all of Mr. Xs Facebook friends can see that he has become a fan of Imagine Group, inevitably prompting some of them to do the same. It’s a lot of fun to engage with people this way. If you want to see what’s been being said or nominate another group on the Facebook page, click here.  Thanks for your interest and Happy Thanksgiving to you all.
